Career Tip: Keep an Updated Network

I attend enough professional outings that often lead to exchanging business cards with really talented people. I constantly make it a priority to take the time to update my contact lists through Gmail, LinkedIn, and all other social networks so I can support new people I’ve met, find leads for new opportunities, and share new ideas. If you don’t already maintain a list of contacts you can keep things simple by creating a spreadsheet with a running list of people you meet and highlighting contacts on your priority list. Or better yet, use a program like Highrise to digitally organize your address book.

I use Moo.com to update my business cards often. For less than $50, you get 100 fully customizable business cards with hi-res imagery (consider a headshot or logo), personalized text (like a short bio and/or contact info) and matte finish. What I love about Moo is the ability to create more than one card design which allows me to update my business cards to my current professions. Here's a sample design:

Once you do a good house keeping of your contact list, make sure your online profiles and branding are aligned.
